Panhala Fort

Panhala Fort-:

There are some of forts around Kolhapur like Panhala,Mahipalgad,Kalanandigad,
Vishalgad.
The fort has witnessed many up heavals and battles and is located around 20 kilometers from Kolhapur.

Before going we know -:


Panhala lies on the Sahyadri Mountain Range and is situated in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.

History -:

This fort had built by King Bhoja between 1178-1209.The fort is known for the battle of Pavan Khind fought between the Maratha king, Sardar Baji Prabhu Deshpande and the Mughal emperor, Siddi Masud of Adil Shah.
The fort had three magnificent double walled gates,the three important gates to gain access to the fort.
The fort also has mausoleums of Jijabai.
The famous Marathi poet Moropanta (1729-94Ad) was bron and brought up at Panhala.

Purandar Fort

Purandar Fort-:


The Purandhar Fort is a popular tourist destination near Pune. Purandar fort is one of the most attractive forts.
Purandar Fort is a famous tourist attraction and a place of historical significance near Pune.It is a wonderful destination for every trekker.

The fort structure actually stands 700 metres tall from the foothills to the hilltop.

Purandar fort located in saswad village in Maharashtra.This fort is 55 kilometers away from pune city.
Purandar Fort is the birthplace of                Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.There is also a church at the Purandar fort.
This fort under control by Army unit. 
Cameras and mobile phones are now not allowed on the fort and no one can stay longer than the stipulated 9 am to 5 pm period.


History -:

Purandar fort has witnessed many tussles between Shivaji and Aurangzeb. This fort saw the rules of Bahamani, Nizamshashi and Adilshahi. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort without fighting, In 1665 AD.
This fort used by the NCC (National Cadet Corps ) academy for training purposes. The fort is a hotspot for paragliders.

Vijaydurg Fort

Vijaydurg Fort -:


 Vijaydurg Fort  is one of the largest forts on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra.
 It was earlier known as Gheria.

Before going we know -:

Vijaydurg Fort is located 110 kilometers away from  Ratnagiri.This fort is built up Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.
Rajapur is the nearest railway station on Konkan Railways.
Vijaydurg Fort is situated at the mouth of Vaghotan River that separates Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.The area of fort is about 17 acres.

History -:
The original fort was built by Bhojraja Shilahar at 1196.  Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaja  captured this fort from Adil shah in 1653.This fort was impregnable for a long time like the fort “Gibraltar” in Europe.
This is only one of the two forts of the Maratha kingdom, where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj personally hoisted the saffron flag.

Murud-janjira Fort

Murud-janjira Fort -:
The sea fort at Murud-janjira as one of the most beautiful fort in India.This fort in Raigad district in Maharashtra.This fort fully surrounded by the Arabian sea.

Before going we know -:

It is located in a small town named Murud. It was built by Malik Ambar.
Janjira Fort 165 kilometers away from south of Mumbai city. Janjira is one of the strongest marine forts of India.The main gate of the fort faces Rajapuri on the shore and can be seen only when one is quite close to it At least 12 meter.

History  -:

The fort contained 70 to 80 cannons in the past and now only 42 remain some of which have rusted due to the humid climate conditions.Originally the fort was small wooden structure built by a Koli chief in the late 15th century.
The fort stands with an impressive height of 40 feet and is bounded by high walls on all sides.

Rajgad Fort

Rajgad Fort -:


           Rajgad Fort is a popular destination in Maharashtra.This fort is one of the grand forts of the Sahaydris.Rajgad means King of all forts.


Before going we know -:

Rajgad fort is located in the Pune district of Maharashtra.This fort  is near about 55km away from pune city. It is located southwest of pune.


History -:

This fort remained the capital of the Maratha Empire for more than 2 decades.This fort is birthplace of Chhatapati Shivaji maharaja son's. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj maximum number of days stayed in this fort.
The fort is mainly divided into four 
parts Suvela Machi,Padmavati Machi,  Sanjeevani Machi, and Balekilla.

Sinhagad Fort

Sinhagad Fort-:
Sinhagad Fort is previously known as kondhana fort. The fort was also strategically located at the centre of a string of other Maratha Empire fort. which is most visited by the youngsters in the city. 

Before going we know -:

Sinhagad Fort is 35 kilometers away from southwest of pune.For public transport, you can take the Pune to Sinhagad Fort bus.
The Sinhagad was strategically built to provide natural protection due to its very steep slopes.
There are two entrance of this fort one is pune darwaja  and another one of kalyan darwaja.Height from sea level is around 4320 feet. 

History -:

The fort might be 2000 years old.One of the most famous battles on Sinhgad was fought by Tanaji Malusare, general of Chhatrapati Shivaji of the Maratha Empire in order to recapture the fort on March 1670.
Chatrapati Shivaji's right hand man, Tanaji Malusare fought with Mughals to regain the fort. Thus, the 'battle of Sinhagad' happens in 1670 and Tanaji Malsure dies in this battle.

Tanaji Malusare-
He was the leader in the Maratha Empire and played an important role in the battle of Sinhagad. The statue is a memorial to Tanaji Malusare.
